The World of Halo III
You probably remember when the first Halo was released for the Microsoft XBOX. More than likely you remember seeing the television commercial and thinking that it wasn’t going to go anywhere. Many people were dead wrong, because it wasn’t long before a Halo 2 and 3 hit store shelves. Many people lined up at midnight just to get their hands on these highly anticipated games, like professionals playing in Starcraft 2 Tournaments for cash prizes.
Halo 3 continues the story of the Master Chief, a soldier raised from childhood to be a super soldier, or Spartan.
When his homeworld of Reach was destroyed, the war with the Covenant became more serious than ever before, eventually leading the Covenant right back to earth where they immediately launched an assault to conquer the blue planet once and for all. This game is extremely entertaining to play, as you see many people not getting any sun anymore.
The story deals partially with the downfall of the Covenant, and partially with the Chief’s search for Cortana who was left behind in Halo 2. Eventually the conflict comes to an end, but at a terrible price. For full details you will have to actually play the game, but believe me it will be quite worth it.
The other part of the game is the multiplayer component which is much more sophisticated than it had been in the previous games. All of the familiar game modes are there, along with new maps and updated graphics.
- On top of that, a new option for four player cooperative mode was added, meaning that for the first time more than two players could jump into the story.
After Halo 3′s release, a new expansion was released a few years later, known as Halo 3 ODST.
For the first time in the Halo series you will play not as the invincible Master Chief, but as a standard marine.
- This puts many players at a disadvantage, but it allows them to see more of the story than ever before, and gives them an insane challenge that many will not be able to conquer.
Halo 3 came in a few different packages.
The first package was the standard XBOX case. Then there was the special edition which came in a metal case, and finally the new Halo III collectors edition which included a bust of Master Chief’s helmet and a bonus DVD. Most consumer reviews of Halo III are positive as many people bought Halo 3 and its accessories.
- The final package was much more expensive, but for collectors it was quite worth it. If you are lucky, you might still be able to find a few copies of it floating around.
A game like Halo comes along once in a generation if that. It is a game that singlehandedly changed the face of the FPS, causing many people to lose sleep, and many kids to drop out of college due to poor grades.
- It is something that is worth putting on your shelf, and worth playing through many times just for the single player experience, let alone the multiplayer.
