Secondary Glazing and Thermal Insulation Keep London’s City Sound
Secondary Glazing and Thermal Insulation Keep London United Kingdom Safe and Secure
Secondary glazing for thermal insulation has become a very important industry in London, United Kingdom. And one of the companies that’s on the cutting edge of this modern, energy-saving technology in the city is City Sound.
- It was back in 1968 when Derrick John Smith founded his family business called City Sound. At that time, secondary glazing was virtually unknown, so he was one of the pioneers who founded a brand new, and much needed industry. He noticed the growing problems with the old Victorian sash windows in London buildings. While these windows are quite beautiful, sash windows were typically poorly fitted. They allowed into homes and offices all of the noise, dirt, and droughts of an expanding city.
Historical Victorian Building Structures
Thermal insulation was not part of the plan of Victorian buildings or fenestration. However, most of the buildings located in central London are listed. Thus, changing out the windows for what were at the time the popular double glazing was not an option.
- But, in truth, there was sound method in this madness. Think of what London would have been turned into if all at the same time everyone had begun installing double glazing to their own designs…or asking for secondary glazing.
This situation was what inspired Derrick to begin his own secondary glazing company, in order to outfit London buildings with the much-needed thermal insulation.
- Well, since that time, he has never looked back. Over the decades his family-oriented business has worked with many different products on a wide array of London buildings.
Today, given their vast experience and attention to customer feedback, City Sound is able to find the perfect match for any building’s existing windows. City Sound provides thermal insulation and secondary glazing that gets installed internally–so, once it’s fitted it’s barely visible.
